Kevin Murphy-Food Chain Communications

Breakfast, lunch and dinner; for most of us, these three things are the only constants in our day. Yet, how many of us actually know the process that food takes, starting with the farmer and ending on our plate?

Kevin Murphy, co-founder of Food Chain Communications, established the company for exactly that reason: to establish effective communication between the people who produce the food and the customers that consume it.

“I worked as a brand director for 14 years with a lot of food related companies. I noticed a disconnect of communication in the food production industry and knew I had to do something about it,” says Murphy.

Food Chain Communications is a marketing organization with links and information available on their website for anyone interested in learning where our food comes from. Content is managed by Murphy’s business partner Mike Smith, who’s been in the agricultural communications business for about 25 years.

Along with Food Chain Communications, Murphy began Truth in Food, an online resource geared toward college students and campuses. Truth in Food provides monthly updates on current issues affecting the food industry, ranging from environmental damage to damage of the human person, and Murphy has a big vision for it in the near future.

“The idea behind creating the Truth in Food College Initiative was to provide an online resource for students to download information, which will equip them to advocate for agriculture in a purposeful way,” he says.

Truth in Food isn’t currently doing any advertising but has already reached over 2,000 subscribers. Murphy says the key is staying true to the right content, and connecting with the right people.
