For those of you who don't know, Pepper Entertainment is the entertainment and marketing firm that is largely responsible for bringing many big name acts to South Dakota. Founder and CEO Jered Johnson and his team of four have been operating for the past five years. However, being an entertainment firm in a small market like South Dakota comes with its obstacles. So, how does this all work?

Jered says, "Smaller markets tend to be limited when it comes to venue availabilities, band routing schedules, and the overall nature of producing large scale concerts." When a band organizes a tour, they book shows in a way that makes traveling convenient for them. So, the first thing that has to work is the band's tour and routing schedule. After that, Jered really has to make sure that their investment in the band makes sense, which is especially challenging given the fact that South Dakota is such a small market. The company has to make sure that the show will draw an appropriate audience (as a result of their fantastic marketing efforts) that will generate an appropriate amount of revenue. All the pieces of the puzzle have to fit in just right.

But Jered and his team seem to know what they're doing. For example, Jered said, "When the company first launched, we aggressively focused our efforts on establishing a brand and creating our own networks of fans. By doing this, we are able to operate a trim formal marketing budget, therefore increasing our overall profits from reduced spending." Wow, he's good.
